Guidelines for Installing High Performance Impact Horizontal Slider (3102) for New Construction and Remodeling |
Method A: Weather –Resistant Barrier (WRB) Applied after the Window Installation – Flashing applied Over the Face of the Mounting Flange
Dimensions referenced are based on a 9" flashing. If a different width of flashing is used, these dimensions should change to correspond to the width of that material. Installation details are based on non-self-adhesive flashing. If self-adhesive flashing/tape is used, some steps such as caulking in steps 4 and 6 can be eliminated. The self-adhering tape/flashing will be installed over the nail flange detailed in steps 5 and 7. Consult self-adhesive tape manufacturer’s installation instructions for proper installation of their product.
3102 Horizontal Slider Installation Instructions – New Construction, Wood & Masonry Step 1 – Apply and fasten the horizontal sill flashing material first, level with the top edge of the rough opening and long enough to extend 9" beyond the jamb flashing.
(for Masonry) Step 1 – Install a 2x wood buck into the masonry opening, using 3/16" x 2-3/4" Tapcons, with a minimum 2" clearance to masonry edges and a minimum 2-1/4" clearance to adjacent Tapcons. Embedment, into the masonry, shall be a minimum of 1-1/4". Anchoring shall be located 4" from each corner, 15" maximum on center of buck jambs, mid-span and 4" on either side of mid-span of buck head and sill. Interior and exterior wood/masonry perimeter joints shall be sealed with silicone sealant. Step 1A – Apply and fasten the horizontal sill flashing material first, level with the top edge of the rough opening and long enough to extend 9" beyond the jamb flashing.
Step 2 – Apply a continuous bead of sealant to the backside of the window-mounting flange and immediately set the window in the opening.
Step 3 – Insert shims as required to ensure the unit is plumb, level and square and fasten the window perimeter securely into position. The fasteners shall be #10 x 2" truss head screws through the flange and into the buck at 2" from each end and 8" on center.
Step 4 – Apply a continuous bead of sealant to the exposed mounting flange at the side jambs of the installed windows. Continue the sealant bead at the jambs vertically 8.5" above the rough opening at the head of the window. (NOTE: If using a self-adhesive window tape, Step 4 and 6 may be omitted)
Step 5 – Install the jamb flashing by pressing the flashing onto the sealant beads applied in Step 4. Extend the flashing 8.5 inches beyond the rough opening at the head and sill. Attach flashing into position using appropriate fasteners.
Step 6 – Apply a continuous bead of sealant to the exposed mounting flange at the head of the installed window. (NOTE: If using a self-adhesive window tape, Step 4 and 6 may be omitted)
Step 7 – Install the head flashing by pressing the flashing into the sealant bead previously applied across the mounting flange. Press the bottom edge of the flashing into the sealant. Extend the head flashing 10 inches beyond the rough opening on either side, over the top of the jamb flashing, and fasten into place using the appropriate fasteners.
Step 8 – In a water shedding fashion, install the weather resistant barrier (WRB) to the building framing. At the sill, tuck the WRB under the sill flashing and loose ends of the flashing. Continue to apply the WRB in a water shedding fashion over the jamb flashing and head of the window.
3102 Horizontal Slider Installation Instructions – Replacement, Wood Step 1 – Insert shims as required to ensure the unit is plumb, level and square. The window shall be secured at the frame interior perimeter into the buck with #10 x 2" truss head screws at 5" from each end and 18" maximum on center at frame jambs and 12-1/2" maximum on center at frame head and sill. The exterior perimeter and sill screw anchors/plugs shall be sealed with silicone sealant.
3102 Horizontal Slider Installation Instructions – Replacement, Masonry Step 1 – Install a 2x wood buck into the masonry opening, using 3/16" x 2-3/4" Tapcons, with a minimum 2" clearance to masonry edges and a minimum 2-1/4" clearance to adjacent Tapcons.
Step 2 – Insert shims as required to ensure the unit is plumb, level and square.
