Guidelines for Installing Patio Doors

5100 Series

Handle doors with care. Do not lift doors by head only. Proper installation is critical for the correct performance of the door system. Manufacturer/Distributor will not be responsible for defects caused by improper installation.

Manufacturer/Distributor is not responsible for doors not installed in compliance to all applicable codes and regulations.

It is the responsibility of the architect, contractor and/or building owner to verify that all applicable laws, ordinances,

codes and safety requirements are met. Contact manufacturer of flashing/building tape and caulking for specific instructions and applicability relevant to their products. Manufacturer/Distributor of the doors is not responsible for installation of or integration with other products.

INSTALLATION – It Is Important That Door Be Installed Plumb, Square And Level.

1. Rough opening should be no more than 1/2" larger than master frame of door.

2. Verify sill plate is level. This is critical for proper operation of the door.

3. Cover the sill with coil stock; apply coil stock prior to the setting of the door

Apply 2 large beads of caulk on the coil stock where the door will be positioned.  Caulk should be applied to the whole length of the sill. It is important that this process be followed so that the unit will be sealed at the sill.

4. With operating panel removed, place door in center of opening. Sill must be supported for entire length.

5. Level, plumb and shim where necessary.

6. Using 5/32” drill bit, drill 4 holes equally spaced through the interior track of both jambs, starting approximately 3” from the head and 3” from the sill. Make sure that when drilling the holes in the jamb track, they are positioned approximately 1” from interior face of the frame.   Next drill a 3/8” counterbore hole at each of the 5/32”pre-drilled holes (drill only through the first wall of the frame.) DO NOT DRILL THROUGH THE ENTIRE FRAME.

7. Proceed with fastening using #8 x 2-1/2” screws into the drilled holes.

Note: On the operating side, replace the 2 screws holding the strike with (2) #8 x 2-1/2” screws into existing frame.

8. Replace and check operating panel for operation and proper reveals.

9. Install hole plugs in the counterbored holes.

10. Insulate jamb and header pockets with batt insulation with pre-cut strips of Batt insulation.

Stuff the insulation between door frame and opening.  Do not overfill. Do not use expandable foam.

11. Trim out the interior and exterior; it is recommended that exterior wood stops be used on all Door

      installations.

12 All interior and exterior perimeter joints must be sealed with a silicone caulk.  Do not caulk weep holes at the sill. The top two weeps in the head should be plugged with a bead of silicone to match profile color.

VINYL SLIDING GLASS DOOR REVERSING INSTRUCTIONS – (Not applicable for 5102 and 5103) REVERSAL MUST BE DONE BEFORE PATIO DOOR IS INSTALLED

A. MOVABLE PANEL AND OPERATING HARDWARE –

1. Open movable panel to full open position, lift up and rotate bottom out to remove. Roller assemblies at movable

panel bottom rail may have to be adjusted to give clearance for bottom and rotate out.

2. To remove roller track, use straight blade screwdriver to wedge out at weep hole notch locations. Reinstall in

opposite rail. This now becomes the sill end of the patio door. Make sure when installing sash track that drain

notches are towards outside surface of panel track and roller bulb is facing upward.

3. Remove sash stop, seal screw holes and reinstall in opposite frame member as this now becomes the frame head.

4. On the movable panel, remove the two roller assemblies, transfer to opposite end of panel and reinstall.

5. Position the panel to the frame in the full open position. Raise the panel top rail up into the frame head, align and

rotate panel bottom over roller track and drop into position. The panel is now operational. Some adjustment is

necessary to roller assemblies to retain panel in tracks. Final adjustment will be done.

B. MOVABLE PANEL LATCHING HARDWARE –

1. Open the movable panel and remove the two interior handle mounting screws and handle and set them aside. This

will include locking lever.

2. Remove the exterior handle and set aside.

3. Located at panel side is lock assembly. Remove both mounting screws. Pull lock assembly out, rotate 180 degrees

and reinstall using same hole locations for mounting assembly.

4. Reinstall exterior handle, making sure handle projection faces towards center of sliding glass door.

5. Reinstall interior handle and locking lever, making sure the same applies for handle projection as stated in step 4.

Reinstall handle mounting screws, taking care not to strip out screws.

C. SCREEN ASSEMBLY REVERSAL –

1. Screen should not have to be removed for reversal. (See item 3 on Final Adjustments)

D. FINAL ADJUSTMENTS –

1. Make sure unit is installed correctly – head at top, sill at the bottom movable panel on the correct operating side,

shimmed, unit square, etc.

2. On the screen assembly, adjust the two bottom roller assemblies height adjuster screws for level operation and

nesting into outer frame lock jamb screen channel.

3. On the outer frame lock jamb, at screen channel, install screen lock keeper using screws in ship loose poly bag. Adjust

for height and proper latching operation.

4. On the movable door panel, adjust roller assemblies located at sash bottom rail for proper height and vertical plumb.

5. Turn the inner adjusting screw on the latch bolt assembly for ease of operation and a snug fit in the locked position.

This gives a total of 1/4" adjustability.

6. There are weep holes located at both ends of upper and lower frame members. The two top weeps should be plugged

with a bead of silicone to match profile color. The weeps are located approximately 3" in from each end of frame

head. Do not plug weep holes at frame sill.
